Training School "Leadership for the future: knowledgeable and successful leaders in Research Administration"

February 18-20, 2019 | Ljubljana, Slovenia

A three-day training school "Leadership for the future: knowledgeable and successful leaders in Research Administration" was held at the Research Centre of the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts, Ljubljana, Slovenia from February 18-20, 2019.

Leadership is the process of influencing others to reach a certain goal. Self-leadership is the process in which you influence yourself in achieving objectives. For both leadership as well as self-leadership awareness is important both of your behaviour, your role, your tasks functions etc.

Although leadership is often associated with being a director or manager having a hierarchical relationship towards others, it is however just as much as about getting things done. Combining technical knowledge with a set of strong communication, behavioural and personal skills is the key to understanding one’s self and working to develop strong competencies in others.

Therefore, this three-day practical course was designed for administrative staff who want to grow into a leadership role and who are familiar with the international (particularly EU) funding, but also who have limited experience as leaders in administration.

During these three days, four BESTPRAC trainers shared their knowledge, best practices, practical solutions, tips and hints about leadership with 29 participants from 14 countries.

The training was divided in four sessions dealing with four levels of control: Self, Team, Institution and National & International. Each level dealt with a person’s role in that particular ecosystem, combining the four to an integrated and well-rounded leadership training.
