Description of job and tasks involved

I am a legal counsel in Aalto University Research and Innovation Services. Work includes assisting in legal matters related to research projects (including all externally funded research projects both international/European and national) such as research contract consulting, drafting and negotiations, guidance and training, IPR counseling, negotiating and executing the transfer and license agreements with commercial entity. I work in close collaboration with pre-award, post-award and innovation service teams of the Research and Innovation Services, Aalto University management and faculty.

Aalto University was founded in 2010 as Helsinki University of Technology, Helsinki School of Economics and University of Art and Design Helsinki were merged. Research and Innovation Services supports the research staff and Aalto management. The unit includes services for externally funded research projects and research strategic support. Services for research projects cover the entire lifecycle of a project: Service in preparation of funding applications and legal questions of research projects as well as commercial exploitation of research results. The personnel of Services for research projects is divided into school-specific teams, comprising a research liaison officer, a grant writer, a grant advisor, a legal counsel and an innovation advisor. Research strategic support provides services e.g. in the research-related policies and procedures (tenure track, doctoral education, research assessments, national profiling of research), multidisciplinary collaboration (platforms, research infrastructures, sustainability) and library and open science services (library resources, support for publishing, ACRIS research information system, and research data management).
