University/Organisation

National University of Ireland, Maynooth (NUI Maynooth) was established as one of the seven universities in Ireland by the Universities Act, 1997. Tracing its origins back over 200 years to the foundation of St Patrick’s College, Maynooth in 1795, the University today is a modern and growing institution with over 8,800 students. The university offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the Arts, Science, Engineering, Philosophy and Celtic Studies. A €100 million building programme has recently been completed, resulting in the most up-to-date academic facilities and student accommodation.

The University embodies a strong tradition of scholarship in the liberal arts and sciences, and excellence in all aspects of its teaching and research activities. It commits itself to establishing an international reputation as a worldclass research-led institution of learning and academic discovery, with recognised strengths in targeted areas of the humanities, social sciences and science and engineering spheres.

Central Research Administration is currently organised within a ‘pre-award’ function which is the responsibility of the Research Development Office, and a ‘post- award’ function which is under the auspices of the Research Administration Office. There is also a Commercialisation office and a Graduate Studies Office.
