Aalto University (Aalto) is a multidisciplinary university combining science, technology, business and art. Aalto has six schools with nearly 20 000 students and 4 000 employees, almost 400 of whom are professors. Share of foreign academic personnel is around 30 %. Aalto does scientific research of a high standard, and strives to make the results available for the benefit of society. Research and Innovation Services supports the research staff and Aalto management. The unit includes services for externally funded research projects and research strategic support. Services for research projects cover the entire lifecycle of a project. The Research and Innovation Service unit gives support in preparation of funding applications and legal questions of research projects as well as commercial exploitation of research results while the post-award team is part of the financial services. Each school has its own school-specific team, comprising of research liaison officers, grant writers, grant advisors, legal counsels, innovation advisors and project managers. Research strategic support provides services e.g. in the research-related policies and procedures (tenure track, doctoral education, research assessments, national profiling of research), multidisciplinary collaboration (platforms, research infrastructures, sustainability) and library and open science services (library resources, support for publishing, ACRIS research information system, and research data management).
